A fabric swatch can show one shrinkage value while the completed shirt shows another. For instance, a buyer may specify that the graphic width must remain within a defined tolerance and that its centerline must stay within a defined distance from the garment center. The exact tolerance should reflect the design, fabric, and selling price rather than being copied blindly from another product.
One successful sample does not prove that every bulk lot will behave the same way. Cotton fiber, yarn, dyeing, finishing, and cutting can vary between lots. Buyers can request testing from the pre-production sample and, for higher-risk programs, from a randomly selected bulk shipment.
A practical inspection plan may include one approved reference garment, documented measurement points, photographs, test results, and a written approval threshold. If a bulk sample exceeds the threshold, the buyer can pause shipment, request rework, or negotiate a solution while the goods are still under factory control.
